Meet David Watson, Hillyer McKeown Employment Solicitor
I have acted for businesses and individuals in Employment Tribunals (ET) and represented claimants in complex discrimination claims against large organisations in both the public and private sectors. Experiencing different working environments and cultures has meant that I and am able to offer realistic insight and advice to clients to help them achieve the best outcome including:
- ET claims
- settlement agreements
- employment contracts
- HR advice.
I qualified as a solicitor at the start of 2016 and joined Hillyer McKeown’s employment team in August 2018. Prior to this I spent nearly five years at a regional law firm handling a broad range of commercial and employment matters with a particular focus on ET work. I am enjoying the challenge of working closely with the employment department’s diverse client base, encompassing businesses in many fields as well as private individuals.
My career progress
Before pursuing a career in law, I worked in the UK and abroad having gained a degree in Modern Languages (French & Spanish) from the Queen’s College, Oxford. After spending time working in the field of Human Resources, I subsequently retrained in law at Liverpool John Moores University from 2011 to 2013, achieving a distinction in both the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) and Legal Practice Course (LPC).
After completing my studies, my first legal role was as a case officer at the Hillsborough Inquest. It is a source of personal and professional pride that I was able to make a contribution to rectifying a miscarriage of justice that had affected so many people. My work on this case strengthened my conviction that solicitors can make a major difference to clients through the effort and expertise that they are able to provide, and remains an inspiration to me in my role.
Outside of work
I have a keen interest in the arts and previously served as a trustee of a performing arts charity in Liverpool. Having lived in Spain for two years, I also like to revive my rusty language skills with European travel whenever possible.
