Meet Eleanor Murray, Hillyer McKeown Trainee Solicitor
My legal experience enables me to communicate advice clearly and cost-effectively to clients, and I enjoy building lasting client relationships. I particularly enjoy being able to solve problems for clients, who in time come to rely on our team for ongoing support and advice. It is a great feeling to provide an excellent service in the first place, and even more so when clients start to see us as a team they can trust.
I started my training contract with Hillyer McKeown (HM) in July 2018 after completing my Legal Practice Course with distinctions in every module and overall. I joined the Commercial Litigation department in January 2019 supporting the team dealing with a wide range of disputes including:
- contractual claims
- shareholder disputes
- residential and commercial property litigation
- contentious probate cases.
I have also had experience of dealing with mediation, including the small claims mediation service. Both procedures can provide a cost-effective way of resolving a dispute on terms satisfactory to all parties.
Prior to joining my current department dealing with commercial litigation and disputes, I spent three years in the Commercial Property department covering the full spectrum of non-contentious property work, including drafting leases, dealing with sales and purchases, and refinancing.
Before arriving at HM in 2015, I also gained further experience undertaking a number of mini-pupillages in barristers’ chambers and dealing with pro-bono work. This experience has proved invaluable in allowing me to understand the full scope of a dispute, from the outset of the issue right through to court proceedings, if these cannot be avoided.
Employee Engagement Committee
I enjoy chairing the Hillyer McKeown’s Employee Engagement Committee (HMEEC). The aims of the committee are to:
- provide communication between staff and senior management
- plan and deliver staff events (including the Christmas Party)
- assist with arranging charity fundraising events
- promote our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) offering.
Outside of work
In my spare time, I run a Brownie Guide unit, I love to go hiking and camping (particularly in Snowdonia and the Yorkshire Dales) and I love to ski.
