Meet Michael Embra, Hillyer McKeown Sports, Media and Intellectual Property Solicitor.
If you need advice regarding sports, media or Intellectual Property (IP) matters, I can help.
As a solicitor in the commercial team at Hillyer McKeown there is no such thing as an average day.
The variety of my work is enjoyable and for the last three years I have thrived on assisting clients across a broad spectrum, from small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to large international companies, and high profile individuals.
I regularly work with sports and media personalities, clubs, brands and businesses in the media and sports sectors who trust me to guide them on their commercial and contractual matters. My expertise lies predominantly in advising upon all stages as applicable, from the negotiation, execution and termination of agreements in the following areas:
- Protection and commercialisation of image rights.
- Agency and representation agreements.
- Sponsorship and marketing agreements.
- Personal endorsement deals.
- Merchandising agreements.
- Digital and social media endorsements and campaigns.
- Professional football transfers, loans and playing contracts.
Managing Intellectual Property (IP)
I am proud to say that my in-depth experience spans advising individuals, companies and organisations from a mixed range of industries and professions in relation to the protection of their IP. My knowledge in the following areas means that I am regularly regularly instructed to deal with:
- UK and EU trademark registrations.
- Managing trademark portfolios.
- Trademark infringement and passing off claims.
- Trademark opposition/cancellation actions and appeals.
Outside of work
I am an FA Registered Intermediary. I enjoy working within the EHM Sports management team providing day to day advice to our clients and securing the best possible playing and commercial agreements for them.
What clients say
“Working with Michael was a pleasure. Our matter was dealt with in a very pro-active, thorough and efficient manner.” Ben Dowding, Managing Director, Taylor Dowding Innovation
I feel privileged to have assisted in a variety of high profile cases. The most notable of which was the landmark privacy case of YXB v TNO, where our team succeeded in overturning a super injunction protecting the identity of the Manchester United Premier League footballer, Marcus Rojo.
