Supporting Jamie’s SDR Journey
Every year, the staff at Hillyer McKeown (HM) vote to support a local charity.
In 2018, HM chose Jamie’s SDR Journey.
HM is proud to have been focusing its fundraising efforts on this chosen charity, encouraging colleagues in the Chester, Liverpool and Wirral offices to get involved in activities such as dress down days, themed cake bakes, and seasonal events.
Jamie is a four year old from Liverpool who has muscle tightness in his legs which means he cannot stand or walk unaided. The target to raise £60K is for life changing Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) operation, followed by at least two years of physiotherapy will improve Jamie’s quality of life.
Congratulations! We were delighted to hear the news just before Christmas that Jamie had smashed his £60K fundraising target and subsequently recovered as well as could be expected after life-changing surgery in January.
HM continues to fundraise for ongoing physiotherapy which will change Jamie’s life.
HM was delighted to meet Jamie and his family (including little sister Grace) and discover that this incredibly brave boy likes Pombears, colouring in and Thomas the Tank Engine.
We reached our target!
We are delighted to say that in July 2019 we reached the £5K target we had set to support Jamie through his treatment and recovery. Everyone at HM was pleased to reach this milestone, knowing that every £1 donated is helping Jamie get through and grow stronger each day. Thank you to the HM Employee Engagement Committee who put in the time, effort and creativity which helped HM achieve this goal, and everyone who has taken part in the diverse fundraising activities throughout the year.
HM Tickle the Ivories for Jamie’s SDR Journey in Liverpool
Thank you to everyone for raising over £175 and supporting the debut of HM’s band in Liverpool One shopping centre. Ian, Craig, Rebecca, Paul, Ellie and Gemma wowed the crowd with a variety of popular songs and Rhiannon, Dave, Emily and Mel joined in shaking the buckets.
HM Carol Singing in Liverpool
December also saw the first outing of HM’s choir which performed Christmas Carols in Exchange Station. It was great to see Jamie and his family joining in, as well as other spectators singing well known classics.
HM’s continued efforts include Hillyer McSlimming (congratulations to those who lost weight), dress down days, Hillyer McCookin’ booklet of favourite recipies, Hillyer McCycling adventure and the Hillyer McPoolin’ tournament.
